Kadirur Surya Narayana Temple is a prominent Hindu temple, situated 8 km from Thalassery. Kadirur is abbreviated from the word Kadiravapuram means “the land of Sun”.
It is believed that Lord Rama, on his way to Lanka in search of Goddess Sita, consecrated the idols of Lord Subramanya in Makreri and Peralassery temples. When the Vedic Brahmins living in Kadirur came to know about this, they went into meditation. Pleased with their devotion, Lord Rama came to Kadirur and blessed them. As he felt the presence of the Sun God in the land, Lord Rama installed the idol of Lord Surya Narayana here.
